Addressing Standards for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands
Unsure of foreign address formats?
In many areas of the country, street names are influenced by Hispanic culture. In these areas, Spanish prefix words are frequently used as the first word of the street name and often combined with prepositional phrases and the noun they are describing. While it is the preference of the Postal Service that all words in a mailing address appear fully spelled out, the Postal Addressing Standards for Puerto Rico and US Virgin Island documents listed below are intended to provide a set of standard abbreviations to be used when there is a need to compress Spanish prefixes in the delivery address line. For a complete listing of Postal addressing formats, see Publication 28, Postal Addressing Standards.
